For the love of pearls

On a trip to Shanghai, the eyes of Jou Jou Jewels designer, Rebecca FitzGerald-Smith, were opened to the possibilities of freshwater pearls cultivated in China. Such a vast array of shapes and colours were available, the like of which was rarely seen in Ireland at that time. On returning home to Ireland, Rebecca investigated how to offer such beautiful and unusual pearls to the Irish & European market. She mastered the traditional methods of creating pearl jewellery and built Jou Jou Jewels on the basis of this, adding other styles & more modern jewellery and techniques as interest in the business grew.

Freshwater pearls, while available at a relatively low cost, maintain all the charm and allure for which pearls have been coveted through the centuries. Their beautiful lustre, shimmering colours and the unmistakable feeling of them against the skin make them the perfect choice for jewellery; offering a little luxury for small expense.

The aim of Jou Jou Jewels is to provide interesting styles using cultured freshwater pearls and semi-precious gemstones with professional techniques to ensure good quality at affordable prices – a little bit of luxury for you to cherish.

Most pieces you find on this site are handmade in Ireland by Jou Jou Jewels designer, Rebecca FitzGerald-Smith and are available exclusively to buy in our online store. Some additional handmade items are included in the collection where they complement our philosophy (& we like them so much we want to make them available to buy!).
